Seven interfaces mean that new-generation gas mixer will integrate with different systems

The latest gas mixer from Witt is all about connectivity and its ability to interface with a range of equipment requiring two or three gases either for process or protective roles in industry.

The new-generation MEM+ gas mixer has no fewer than seven different interfaces for integration with systems from packaging machinery to laser welding, says Witt, with accuracy and consistency being key features. Analogue 4020 mA, Ethernet, CanBus and OPC UA are standard, with Profinet, RS232 and analogue 0-10V as options. The mixer can be operated remotely via a PC, PLC or machine controller, as well as via a touchscreen on the device itself. Predefined gas mixtures can be selected in seconds, says Witt.

Motorised proportional valves operate electronically to mix up to three non-flammable gases such as N2, CO2 or O2. Mixing is adjusted precisely in steps of 0.1%, says the company, with extremely short reaction times meaning that the desired gas mixture can be achieved in less than three seconds. Accuracy is said to be better than +/-1% absolute.

Pressure equalisation means the mixer does not respond to fluctuations in gas supply pressures, and if pressure is too low, an alarm is triggered. A buffer tank means that fluctuating or even intermittent flow need not be a problem. The mixer can be combined with continuous monitoring from a separate gas analyser for additional safety.

Different models are available depending on the amounts of gas required, with 20 bar as the maximum inlet pressure and 10 bar the maximum outlet pressure. The brushed stainless steel splash-proof housings are robust, says Witt.
